Arm Warmers: Key for Your Transformer Running Outfit

I am so excited that the weather is shifting into autumn. I am all about fall this year. I want pumpkin everything. The humidity is dropping slowly (here in the mid-Atlantic/ swamp region we are still getting close to 90% humidity at morning run time) and the temperatures are starting to get much more comfortable. This weekend I checked the weather before my run and couldn’t even remember what that would translate into for running gear. Did I want long or short sleeves? Long pants or shorts? The perfect day to break out the arm warmers!

I love running, but I also like to be comfortable. I don’t like to start a run freezing and hope eventually I’ll warm up. I don’t like to start a run feeling comfortable and end up roasting. Layering is key. Arm warmers are easy to shed after you warm up. They are pretty tiny and can easily be shoved in a pocket or tucked into a waist-band. You can also roll them down and leave them on your wrists.

I have run several races wearing arm warmers fashioned out of knee high socks. When I get too warm in a race I just ditch them when I toss them (in a garbage can, don’t litter). For non-racing, my current favorites are these Oiselle brand arm warmers made out of their ‘lux’ fabric (so soft and cozy!). They are super soft. As with many items from Oiselle, these were only offered for a short time. They are currently selling a version made of their ‘ply compression’ fabric, in great colors. These are normally $32, but they are on sale until September 30, 2020 with code WTF25 for $24. They also have a very cool extra long version with a thumb hole, made of reflective fabric ($32). These look so good, I am trying to justify buying a new pair.
